5 Tips For Growing Your First Beard

Thinking about growing a beard? Here are 5 things that may help.

1. Let It Grow, Let It Grow, Let It Grow

Well, obviously.

If you think continuing to shave is going to result in a beard, I’m surprised you’ve managed to find the internet and this article! Well done.

But seriously, if you’ve ever been told shaving hair makes it grow back faster and fuller, it’s an old wives tale.

Put down the razor and see what happens…

2. Use Beard Oil

It helps right from the start.

It will condition your hair and skin, promoting a more even / faster growth.

And best of all, it will minimise the dreaded beard itch.

3. Pick A Style

Beards come in all shapes and sizes, so as you start to get some growth happening have a think about what style may suit you.

Largely thanks to genetics, we all have different growth patterns, and you may find some areas grow better than others.

For example, you may have a strong mo / goatee but more sparse growth around your cheeks. You could keep those sparse areas shorter or shave them completely and grow out the rest.

4. Groom It As You Go

Once you have your look sorted and some growth happening, keep some beard scissors nearby and get in the habit of trimming those fly aways (hairs that insist on sticking out like Shaquille O’Neal in a room full of jockeys).

My routine in the early stages of growing was:

- towel dry after showering

- massage some beard oil into my skin and over my beard

- brush it

- trim the fly aways

As it got longer, I also combed it to remove any knots before brushing.
